Butylated Hydroxytoluene(BHT) is a white crystalline solid with a faint characteristic odor. It is insoluble in water and in propylene glycol, but is freely soluble in alcohol. It is obtained by alkylation of p-cresol with isobutene or by monobutylation of m,p-cresol mixtures.
Butylated hydroxytoluene (BHT), also known as butylhydroxytoluene, is a lipophilic (fat-soluble) organic compound that is primarily used as an antioxidant food additive (E number E321) as well as an antioxidant additive in cosmetics, pharmaceuticals, jet fuels, rubber, petroleum products, electrical transformer oil, and embalming fluid.
Application:
Mainly used in animal and vegetable oil and fat, and oil-rich food, and for packaging materials for cosmetics and food.
